Who we are
Banff Car Buyers is a small, independent vehicle buying operation based in Banff, Alberta. We have worked in this valley since 2021.
We exist because of a problem specific to where we live. Dead vehicles sit in Banff parking stalls for years, and it is almost never because they are worthless. It is because there is no auto wrecker or salvage yard in Banff, in Canmore, or anywhere in the Bow Valley. Every vehicle that reaches the end of the road here has to be towed out to Calgary, roughly 130 kilometres east, before anybody can do anything with it at all.
So the same pattern repeats. An owner rings a Calgary number, gets quoted once, discovers the tow costs more than the car is worth, and gives up. The vehicle stays where it is through another winter.
Being based in the valley changes that arithmetic completely. The tow is already inside what we pay rather than charged on top of it, and a pickup in Harvie Heights or Lake Louise is an ordinary day rather than an inconvenience to be priced accordingly.
What being small actually means here
We are an independent local operation. Not a franchise, not a lead-generation website that sells your details on, and not a Calgary company running a Banff page.
That has three practical consequences for anyone selling a vehicle to us.
- The number on this site reaches the people who do the work. There is no call center, no script, and no handover to a dispatcher two hours east. The person who quotes your vehicle is the person who turns up for it.
- The quote is a commitment, not an opening position. A buyer working from a distance has to protect themselves with a wide range and adjust once a driver finally sees the vehicle. We do not need to, because we already know what it costs to move a vehicle out of this valley.
- Your details stay with us. We collect what is needed to make an offer and complete a sale. Nothing is passed to a network of other buyers.

Licensed, insured and documented
Banff Car Buyers is licensed and insured.
Every purchase is completed on a written bill of sale recording both parties, the vehicle identification number, the year, make and model, the odometer reading, the price and the date. You keep a signed copy, which is your proof that you no longer owned the vehicle from that date forward.
We handle the Alberta ownership transfer at pickup. Alberta does not issue vehicle titles, so the document that matters is the registration certificate. If you have read American advice using the word title, it does not apply here. The paperwork requirements are set out in full on how it works.
Payment is made before the vehicle is loaded, in every case, with no exceptions. You keep the keys until the money is in your hands.
